Does a professional footballer work? Or play?
I think that's the correct sentence, I hope.
My verdict? His job is to play.
There is a reason a footballer is dubbed as "professional". If a person were to play football for fun, he would not be called a professional, even if he is as good or even better than working footballers. He would be dubbed then as a normal football fan/player or an amateur player. A professional footballer does not merely "play" for fun. He has to perform his best at all times. If a person plays for fun, he does not have to make sure his performance is always in tip-top condition, unlike of course, someone who is paid to do it. Lastly, a professional footballer works because there is monetary value involved when he does it. Any normal person who plays this sport just for fun does not get paid, but it is out of self-interest. A professional however, may not necessarily enjoy it although there a certain level of passion must be instilled in him for him to perform well. I'm sure we don't enjoy playing football 24/7 right? I mean you can love it, but wouldn't it sucked if everyday you got up just for one objective? Get my drift?
Only thought of posting this up because we were discussing some form of football in church today. Passed another NST ad on the way back home. And saw some school kids playing football in a school field on the way back. Yep, three times lucky.
Pastor mentioned something of a fact that was incredibly funny today in church. He said:
Old people are rich. They have silver hair, gold teeth, a lot gas and they loads of stones.
lol. thank god the grannies didn't beat him up for that one haha..
