Views on Mainstream Music
Finally this question! Haha, cause I accidently saw this question wayy too much earlier than I should have and was waiting and thinking hard on this one.
Mainstream music? IMHO? The first thing is to actually define what is considered mainstream. Is it defined by artists who are popular? Or are they artists who record songs that they don't "believe" in? Ie: taking composed music pieces given to them by their company because the management thinks it'll sell or is right for their image? I don't think (IMO) that a mainstream character should be in any way interconnected or genre biased. Think of it, you'd consider all music artists to be indie-esque until the day they get a contract with some mega firm. So in that case, doesn't this make Justin Beiber indie at some point cause he was doing his own thing? So suddenly he's got haters cause he went all mainstream? Then why is Lana Del Ray still considered indie-ish if she's also landed herself a huge contract?
I think what we should worry about isn't mainstream music, but rather the 'mainstream' mentality in general. This mentality kind of happens in earlier stages of our lives, okay, maybe they still do if an individual hasn't questioned the present and lives comfortably in his current situation/life. I think that although we may have developed from mainstream to non-mainstream thinking in regards of the music scene (thank you internet exposure), we are still caught up with mainstream-ness with a lot of other aspects of life. Like how I'm over 9gag and memes when everyone is thinking its the bomb. Or how my friends are posting quotes on their timeline when im keeping them organized and stashed on Pinterest, which they know nuts about. Or how some diy tips on facebook no longer intrigues me any longer cause I've seen better, the key is that knowledge = power. The more you know of your options (music), the less likely we are to focus on a certain genre or "archetype".
If you remember the movie "", think of the two shrimps who were swimming. They were basically just like all other shrimps, swimming in their colony to get to a better place. Only when they were able to break out of their pack did they realize that there is much more to life that what they've been taught of all their lives. Only if each individual breaks out from their norm or their current position that makes them uncomfortable can they see two (or three!) sides of things. Its not like the two shrimps felt totally at ease breaking away, but they did it anyway, and guess what? They saw sea life from a whole new perspective. Being different is awkward and uncomfortable but being able to get pass that point of discomfort results in greater outcome and you'll feel more relieved because you're discovering yourself and making choices for what best fits you or makes you happy.
Just like you can't say you hate coffee without first tasting it, you can't say you like or hate indie a.k.a non-mainstream music if you haven't heard it. And just because you hate coffee doesn't mean you won't like macchiato or cappuccino. You have to find the one that suits your style, just as listening to one (or a few sets of indie musicians isn't going to benefit you. Like how Angus and Julia, Lykke Li and Lana DR is so huge but i don't find them THAT fascinating. So it definately takes time, and I don't think anyone should push it finding their comfort zone cause sometimes even I think that I've just about discovered all the musical talents i'll ever need, but then you need to relax and let things fall into place cause I definately found better artists in comparison to what i did say, 12 months ago.
The fact is no matter where we live, in what time, mainstream", in this case music, is not something we can hide from. The fact is, mainstream music is much more readily available. Television, online, newspaper, magazines, you name it, they've got coverage. You'll realize that no matter in what circumstance, we're exposed first to mainstream media, then indie. It NEVER works the other way. I've never ever met anyway who's told me "oh i listen to indie music. Mainstream music? Pop? What's that?" Never. That is why society in general has a higher so-called tendency to be into mainstream. But i think in fact that if we were first exposed to indie, we'd go like ehhhm,-what-iz-mainstream?o.o
I think the fact that people are so against mainstream media its because its overclouding or overshadowing things. Like monopoly. But these days I think its good to have a bit of everything, the point is not to restrict thyself to thinking that oh, this so-and-so is good, i think i'll just stick with them. As far as brand loyalty goes, its not about being loyal to an artist or what. I think loyalty works fine, you'll probably want to stick with that same artist for long term cause you like their style or the choice of music etc, but don't let that get in the way of you finding newer interest in other great artists you could be missing out on. You don't have to be loyal to one brand, be loyal to 10, 20, 3328 brands if you want to. But don't let that keep you from growing and discovering. Finding a good artist is not like.. your final destination.

Thirsty Thoughts Challenge Day #3
A Book You Love
Clearly, I have either read very lousy books in my life or I there is basically not particular book title that comes to mind as to a book I cherish the most.
But, if I really really had to name my favourite set(s) of books, it'd have to be the "American Girls" Series, "Little House on the Prairie" books and this set of fairy-tale retellings which i have no idea what series they're named.
Yes i know, like what the..? right? I mean its not like I have not read things by literary geniuses such as Murakami (okay only one book), or I Capture the Castle or The Da Vinci Code, but they just don't stand out as much because, I mean yeah its genius work but this is not about brains but rather about what actually captured me,and has the drive to sustain even as I evolved from adolescence to teenage life.
I have loads of books I've bought since I was like 12 and haven't read, and some of this titles are still in my cupboard. So many chick lit's I've bought later than that have already been given up for donation of some sort.
Love the retellings cause even thought they're retold classics, I still find them dreamy-like and it stirs up this feeling to keep believing in fairytales.
American Girl Series? Cause they're not just adorable but I love their "back in the day" snippets at the end where they have these real pictures during the time of the story setting in there. Oh and the family tree in front is cute too :D
Little House on the Prairie is a classic. Been brought up, ok I mean I told my parents I wanted to buy these books at the store when I was a kid. Still, better than reading something bout' kissing college boys in your books right? One or two here and there is fine but look, I'm already polishing myself at such a young age (lol)
I think the base of these 3 books is that it leave so much to the imagination, and not about lustful things or what nonsense you can do when you turn legal, but a depiction of happier times and joy, innocence and strength.

Thirsty Thoughts Challenge Day #2

Something I Feel Strongly About
I basically feel that relationships these days are the bull.
I think people these days have this distorted idea of how relationships (this covers bf/gf to friendships) are supposed to work. I just can't stand (from a whole lot of observation as well as experience) how people treat some people who are kind and sacrifice or put effort to help them to get what they want and then see them get thrown away/ignored after. I've got some friends whom i've had a H2H talk with and they just complain to me that people only come to talk to them only to ask them questions on how to get this and this done. This is kind of the crappy reason why I don't bother with relationships anymore. I think that in ALL relationships be it just a coursemate or even for BFFs, if you actually observe your timeline for all friendships you're going to realize that it's just going downhill, even if it isn't visible (cause its a super-long-term effect). Sometimes I ponder if childhood friend's really still do exist or are you guys just pretending to be happy with each other's company? Are you lying to yourself or trying to comfort that you are actually happy even if you're dying inside. Like maybe when i was 15 or 16 my mental capabilities are still centered around school, campfires, going out with friends (which i think many youths/YA still revolve around this), so I probably never questioned this, until recently. But assuming you're the type to go out w/ friends since you were 10, isn't 12 years of going out to the cinema or karaoke-ing with your friends enough??? I just don't understand why people my age don't seem to grow up to become more culturally aware or to upgrade their taste in their choice of hobbies or whatnots. I don't see many people my age (and we're considered as adults, mind you) thinking that going to watch the Ballet or going to an art exhibit or some sort of thingy that blows your mind the same way i discovered infographics would.
I think in terms of bf/gf relationships the whole concept or view/perception sort of evolves as we grow older. I can remember back when I was 15, I admit, I did think a lot of getting hooked up with someone. You have to remember that back then we're all so caught up in our circle of life which at that time didn't really involve much of fashion and design which i'm into these days. Maybe that's what we call being mainstream cause technology back then is so different from what we have now. If you were to talk to someone aged 15 these days, they'll know about Facebook, tumblr, and quotes and 9gag, but back then what I could recall was going out w/ friends, campfires and school-related stuff. As much as technology is bad cause it discourages actual f2f interaction, I still think that because of it, teens like (back when I was 15) are able to evolve quicker and they don't have to abide by a certain fixed loop of options when it comes to discovering their interests. But of course they do need to pick the right options. But I think even back then, making wise choices has always been of importance as they are today.
Yes, back to gf/bf thingies. I guess maybe its just me but what I don't like today about them is how men (maybe women, I don't encounter this) like to tell the opp. sex they like them or something of that sort and then somehow you realize they're not that sincere, whether it is you suddenly change because of what they said or implied and they say the exact opposite of what they did before (or somehow twist it around), i don't know how to put it in words. Its like how they "like" you but they sort of have this odd drive that isn't able to reel you in sort of thing. And now they're complaining of getting friend-zoned. I think one side has this misconception that whoever you confess to is supposed to like you back. And if I don't, should I slap and shout and reject you by saying "no, idiot, i don't like you back and for that stop friend-ing me" or should we reject them gently by being nice but staying apart for a while so we can at least still be friends. Unless your original intention was to never be friends, that's what you're saying? Cause i def wont ever want to be w/ a guy unless we're friends.
These days, my motto is, maintain relationships with this zone where I don't intend to overstep. Not to say that people aren't nice or what, but this. in the end..
I think the same goes for employee/employer relationships. I can't stand it when upper authorities think their employees are just tools or something to get sales (if in retail). Just because employees for part-time sales associate in sales have the tendency to be lazy and stupid (i mean like their exams aren't academically good) and they're probably never going to further their studies to college or university, it doesn't mean that in the midst of this swarm of lousy workers there isn't this bright young thing observing your every move and seeing your flaws shine so brightly through and having this eternal bias towards the system/work hierarchy. Oh god, lets not get started on the how-i-use-my-connections-to-get-what-i-want-and-where-i-want. I think its despicable and my guess is that's the beginning of the fall for any company to choose base on because "you seem good enough (portfolio/resume) and well I do know you" instead of "among all who applied you have the most potential to shine if groomed well".
Yeah, i shall not.

Thirsty Thoughts Challenge Day #1
I've decided to start something useful again.
Five Ways to Win Your Heart
Note that this key elements do NOT work if I'm not personally attracted to them (men) physically/mentally. Argue with me that I should not be so picky, but seriously, some men I know are so annoying/bitchy/whiny no matter how hard you try to woo and flirt, it isn't going to work out, SO PLEASE STOP.
1. Maturity & Substance
You know how girls in high school go crazy for boys in college? As a uni student I can say for sure that uni boys are way beneath my liking. I have not yet found any man, okay maybe two or three, but one is (un)-naturally mature for his age, and the other is older than me by x years so it doesn't help anyway. Right now uni girls like me are prolly drooling at the sight of men in suits or a one that wears lab coat, whichever rocks your boat... but the scary thought I had was, what would become of me when I graduate in a bit and head out to the working world??? If this theory applies for ALL women at all ages, I'll prolly be looking at seriously old dudes and that just scares the crap outta me.
The irony of it all? Men (ahem, i mean boys) who are coming after my ass keep getting younger and younger. Like hello, am I sending off the wrong signals????!
Okay back to the subject. Maturity not only covers mentally, but in the attitude sense as well. I can't can't can't can't stand whiny boys. Hello? I intend to be the whiny one in any relationship. Please, siam; or find someone else to annoy. And im not even as whiny as them. Cripes, men whinier than a female? Phail.
I can't stand bitchy guys prone to complaining or arguing with me. I can take teasing and sarcastic-but-i-know-you're-kidding nonsense from guys but there are just some men who annoy the crap out of you, I just know I'm way smarter and better off single/marrying some other guy than spend my time entertaining your substance-less argument. This is the first dead giveaway of a man with no substance, if they constantly argue with you on something shitless. Men like this make me wonder why I should be entertaining their crap when I should be watching k-drama cause I certainly would rather spend time finding a nice k-drama to watch than see them whine on their (fail) brain levels.
I almost forgot; pushy men who complain or whine about decisions you make. Hello, I'm human. I have opinions and am entitled to them. Its even worse when they ask you out and you say no and they keep whining why why whyyyyy WHYYY??? Like wtf every guy asks me out or for something im supposed to say yes? And I just don't understand why do they bother asking me when they can't accept the answer I give. No unless I say so? Duh. I guess this is the part where teen girls always complain of being pressured to have sex. I'm sure most men would probably be polite and ask first, but if you cant accept the answer, then what's the.. point? Questions aren't all meant to be answered with a yes. Question, you know??
Oh shiz, and speaking of maturity, I CANNOT stand guys who uses baby language with me in a conversation because they want to flirt with me and clearly im being unresponsive. Like, eew?. Esp if you're younger. I'm 22 not 14. Girls my age want to look poised, or in most cases, sexy. Not.. whimpy kawaii. DON'T ever flirt and use baby words with a girl if she clearly isn't interested. If she's not into you now, she prolly won't ever be. Just go pack your bag now.
2. Intellect & Ability to Hold a Conversation
I think there are prolly other girls who will have this in their list as well. For me I don't just want a guy to be playful, I'm not a serious person if you know who I am. I'm not speaking of intellect in terms of academics, that is a MUST, but I won't stab you as long as you can think outside of class. But from a lot of conversations with men I've had, (especially those my age) I've actually become VERY disappointed because I don't find my conversations with men very intellectual. I do like being not serious, but there are times when two people should also bring each other higher, or more intellectual when you discuss things you've already known. Ok this kind of applies to females I know as well, sorry. But maybe this is just a youth problem in general. There are one or two guys who I can actually talk Sherlock' to, but that's just about it. I may not be 100% politics but I'm always willing to listen and discuss my opinion.
I also kind of am annoyed that men aren't intellectual. They basically spend their whole lives centered around things they're familiar with like tech or accounts or whatnot, whichever clique or life you lead, but they know nothing outside of it. I don't expect a man to know fashion, but please try to get yourself acquainted with fashionable words that are in their maturity to decline stages of their life cycle. YOU WEAR CLOTHES TOO. Some guys don't even know what a wedge is. Gosh. Think im just into fashion? Take back your words cause I even know what Parkia speciosa is. I didn't know but I decided to go find out today. Clearly out of my area of specialty but its clearly better than some men. I want men to discuss substance with me. Things I would commonly find on 'The Straight Dope' or news like one I found on Good.is about using color psychology to fight social crimes in this century. Or types of ways to tie a tie, men's section! Even better if he can relate facts to things/subjects and make it funny, like this down here, its probably useless knowledge and i probably won't remember it in a week, but it leave such a big impression for the other person. Sigh.
Oh, and NEVER tell a girl her interests are.. not as good as your set of interests. DON'T even show it. I don't. I know of a few. Especially if you're not the kind that's intellectually smart, don't bullcrap cause you're messing with the wrong personality.
3. Drive & Confidence
Not speaking of lan si confidence or that air of being so-called elusive. Nor am I speaking of a super confident guy, guys like that when you have a fickle gf like me, you're going to push me until I hang myself or something dramatic.
I also don't like it when we're doing assignments and when someone, girl or guy comes up to me and asks me for the answer for the questions, be it group or individual assignments. wtf? we discussed it yo. Am i like your breakdown hotline? Or the unofficial leader which i did not get a memo for? I can't stand men like that. I am highly concluding that men like this are going to have huge problems with their relationships being this fickle. I need a man that takes action of his own responsibilities. Hey, I need to count on someone when we start a life together, yes? Fickle men make BAD husbands. Being decisive also means STOP ASKING ME: what do you want to do now? Every minute. I think the misconception here is that they think i'm THAT smart? Like hello, in case you didn't know, I wasn't personally fed with the answers for the assignment, I had to think. Yes, T-H-I-N-K, like regular students.
Being a super lazy person (I admit), I need to be sure that my other half is more motivated and driven, if not x boleh jalan. They need to be motivated, consistently. I need an aggressive other half that knows when to deaw the line (refer to maturity). He should also know what things are important and worth living for. Like as much as he should be driven to provide, happiness/joy is still priority. And so are alot of other things on the list.
4. Spontaneity
I think girls ask for this too. Nothing worse than a guy who asks if he can kiss you before he does. Everytime.
Don't always ask us what we want cause we want to be surprised. Of course doing it wrongly is just as bad. We're not ALL that picky and we don't have a one-scenario pictured inside our heads when we want to be surprised by you, we have more than five. But sometimes guys go the extent that even their mom's would probably feel ghastly or awkward if they tell them about it, and they're even more forgiving in comparison to me. Please, creativity to the limits of a normal human with a sane conscience?
5. Manners & Poise
Almost forgot this element. Men (and women) these days have no substance. I hate seeing how men(and women) these days use f-words like they're running tap water. Or how girls feel bitchy or threatened with their boyfriends and act mean etc..
I came across two/three men once and they were in a table beside us. They wanted like extra soup spoons, but they didn't have any on their table. One guy leans in our table and grabs a spoon from our side, without saying "Please" or asking us first. If it were in a different situation and i'm out with my girlfriends or whatnot, and men like these show off their (fake)macho-ness, i'd write him off instantly. And he hasn't even open his mouth yet. Imagine what worse of an impression he'd make if he does. *yawn
Carry yourself well.
I remember what one guy said, and he's younger, mind you; "It's not who the other person is, but who you are". And are you classy enough?
Clearly not many men are.

sore loser.
everytime im in a (game) room with a foul-mouther and they utter nonsense throughout the game and ask me to siam after cause i lag i feel like replying them sarcastically: "Sure wei, if u dont ask me to siam I'll also fly far far away. I'd do the exact same thing to you if I had someone like you in my room. Wouldn't want someone like you to lower the class of your entire generation and the masculine species." No wonder he has to complain about not having a girlfriend like the whole time I was in there. ._.

you don't even know me
I'm no longer doing this because I'm motivated,or passionate.
nor am I doing this because I want to graduate fast and begin life.
An artist doesn't paint because someone wants him to. Nor does a true one really do it for money.
I am no longer doing this to make anyone proud
or even proud of me in the least. (TBH i dont really care)
They say to be successful, you need to close one of the lights of the four burners.
And to be the best, you need to close two burners.
I only know this:
I'm expected to burn five burners at once.
The only reason I'm still holding on right now,
Is because I know I'll still be the ONLY one to save myself.
Just me.
Just me.
And this time, I WILL save myself again.
nor am I doing this because I want to graduate fast and begin life.
Just me.
Just me.
And this time, I WILL save myself again.

head in the clouds
I was browsing through my (VERY LONG) list of bookmark-ed sites when I found this pretty pastel cloud bag. Very Hermès-esque, but I can't remember where this is from (unfortunately!). Suddenly looking at the cloud print reminded me of the time back in 2007 or 2008 when I accidentally found a very random site called The Cloud Appreciation Society. Of course, the graphics and layout of the site is much much, much better looking today than it was back in 2007 or 2008 when it consisted mostly of html.

spin, clock, spin
The Korean Xmas songs this year aren't enticing (so far). The closest I got is a similarity to IU's x'massy song from last year..
IU - YOU&I
And the live version:
My favourite part is 2.45-2.51, so cute ^^

breathing, dreaming
Underwater Carousel from Elena Kalis on Vimeo.
Been having a series of bad dreams for weeks/months. I don't even know what's wrong, or if I'm supposed to somehow decipher something behind these repetitions of dreams. Definitely in need of one of these decadent dreams of carousels and stars instead of what I'm having now.
Exams on Monday but I can't seem to get my heart to love those wordings on my gleaming, clean textbook. The desire to study is getting weaker and weaker in me each semester. Now I'm even having thoughts of how come people are so complicated. When you come out to work, shouldn't what's important be making enough money so you can enjoy some little luxuries (and not all). Isn't it enough that you make more than what you spend (both cost and self expenditures). I'd be happy just like that. Seriously.
Why do people strive to work to make overly much to try to own everything. Some even make $ so they can have more to invest in to get more. Although I guess more gives you more security but.. I don't think its worth trying to push yourself so hard on money until you neglect your own happiness. Sure money makes you happy, but not the work behind it. And that working part? Can't even guarantee you enough value for what you sacrifice. And that's why I can't understand accounting anymore. Making something so simple utterly complicated. What's important is I have enough and I keep a nice record so I know how I got my money. And I can live pleasantly. No drama, no attention and glitz, just pure happiness.
Or maybe these are just thoughts of a loner with a wild heart.

no good at love.
Noël Coward - I Am No Good at Love

I am no good at love
My heart should be wise and free
I kill the unfortunate golden goose
Whoever it may be
With over-articulate tenderness
And too much intensity.
I am no good at love
I batter it out of shape
Suspicion tears at my sleepless mind
And, gibbering like an ape,
I lie alone in the endless dark
Knowing there's no escape.
I am no good at love
When my easy heart I yield
Wild words come tumbling from my mouth
Which should have stayed concealed;
And my jealousy turns a bed of bliss
Into a battlefield.
I am no good at love
I betray it with little sins
For I feel the misery of the end
In the moment that it begins
And the bitterness of the last good-bye
Is the bitterness that wins.

♥
Gavy NJ - 가비효과
Lyrics
Because of this love, my heart thump-thumps like this
“Gongdak gongdak” is the sound of my heart
You think the same way I do,
So I keep smiling when you look at me
I tiptoe like this to let you reach my hands
Unless you throw them away and turn your eyes away
My heart was thrown away, it was abandoned
But you spontaneously grabbed my hand
You can’t get better than this
Everyday, you’re the one I think of
In my heart, there’s only you
Don’t say anything, don’t hide it,
But you already know it
In my ear, “I love you,” tell me everyday
I want to hear these words all day
Tell me before we start dating
Starting today, I’ll tell you “I love you” everyday
I guess I can easily give you my heart like this
With all this, it also an easy farewell
I know I worry too much about useless things
So I carefully kiss you
You can’t get better than this
Everyday, you’re the one I think of
In my heart, there’s only you
Don’t say anything, don’t hide it,
But you already know it
In my ear, “I love you,” tell me everyday
I want to hear these words all day
Tell me before we start dating
Starting today, I’ll tell you “I love you” everyday
In your eyes, in your eyes, capture me
In your heart, in your heart, hug me
So take me and open my love
Only our sweet paradise world
Is what I’ve been dreaming of
Don’t break up with me, don’t cry
Let’s only love each other
Let your heart overflow and scream “I love you”
Leave-leave all you want to say
If I love you, because I love you
Starting today, I’ll tell you “I love you” everyday

i'm not.. but then again.. i am
I know I'm not smart, but (let me have it just this once) I scored highest for my productmanagement individual paper this term!!
I initially thought this other girl whom I knew would be getting it cause she's always scored super high for every subject and she's on a scholarship from one of the local newspapers around here. I'm not into kids who think they're smart but trying to be humble with it by telling that they don't study or don't attend classes. At least try to be modest without going OTT if you're going to be modest. If not, don't. Then again, I'll probably despise them the same. I lost 70% (which is 7/10) of my marks for my report structure, a drastic and careless mistake if you think about it. All I had to do to get those marks was to change my font to 12 (the default font is 11, what am i supposed to do about that?), justify (reasonable, but what's wrong with left alignment?), add in a content page (=_=) and an executive summary. I scored pretty much well on the other aspects, gaining about 26/28 or so out of the other sets of criteria.
See, I lose points for no reason. If I'd done all those (above), I'd be getting about 90%+ :(
Aside from that, I'm grateful to God for scoring well on this paper. Let's wait for the finals.
Speaking of assignments, I am nowhere near 50% of my questionnaire collection, and at about 100+ surveys, I'm getting a headache trying to fix up and check up on all the papers to make sure they're all answered.
The rank order question. Is so. Gonna. Kill. Me.
Gosh, how am i going to handle 700 when 100 is already making my back ache and my head spin. And its due in like what? 2 weeks. OCrrraappp..
